In two weeks time I'll be back at @waterstonesliverpool (and flexing those illustrator muscles too) with a create your own villain/monster session for kids 🖍😈 Free to attend Likkle Lit Fest left my heart feeling so full this Saturday. A festival of Black literature for kids and young adults, taking place in the north, in the midst of a national reading crisis, and families turned UP! There've been a few new followers since last week's announcement, so this seems like a great time to introduce myself! As my late Nana and my young master thief Arthur would say, "Mi laaaaaawd!" We are Waterstones Children's Book Prize shortlisted! Throughout February @bookshop_org_uk will donate 10% on children's book sales to @booktrust and @scottishbooktrust Spirit Warriors and The Boy to Beat the Gods are included, but also go support some recent titles or ones coming out very soon, that are on my TBR or I've already had the pleasure of reading. Happy New Year, all. It's Capricorn season and I'm feeling very grateful for another turn round the sun. Can't wait to play another round of 'is that grey hair or cat fur?' every time I look in the mirror... Wahoo! The end, friends. That's two books written this year, which has never happened before. I'm still finding out a lot about myself as a writer.  I've been sent some stellar MG and YA proofs this year, so I WILL be conducting the hype train 🚂 November was a bumper month for events, and a great way to cap off author visits in 2025. School visits remain one of the greatest privileges in my life, and something I love doing, but for the last couple of days I’ve been reflecting on how this summer was marred by the prevalence of nationalistic, anti-migrant sentiment. I was driving to schools all around the country and had a bit of a mental health dip having to pass so many St George’s Crosses in towns, on masts and off bridges, and then go and be energetic and cheery to a room full of excited students.
